 What
is a Boundless
Playground? A
Boundless Playground is a place where children and adults of ALL abilities can
come together and experience the wonder of play in a safe, barrier-free environment.
It's where children can develop their skills and strengths while exploring sensory-rich
opportunities through side-by-side play with their friends. Just as
importantly, family members who may have difficulty with mobility can also easily
join in the fun. Boundless Playgrounds ®, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,
helps communities like ours, create these play environments that address the needs
of ALL children including those with physical, sensory or developmental disabilities.
In short, having a Boundless Playground means the difference between
just watching or being able to join in the fun!
Why Does South Windsor Need this Playground?
We have over 2,500 elementary school
aged children in town - over 250 of them with special needs. Yet there are no
accessible playgrounds in South Windsor. During the day, our special needs children
learn, play and interact along side their typically-abled peers. Why would we
exclude these children at the end of the day just because the school bell rings?
A Boundless Playground will provide self-directed, rigorous and challenging
activities to help EVERY child have fun and build friendships. This
playground will be intergenerational by allowing grandparents, parents or caregivers
who might have physical challenges to supervise or actively participate with the
children. My Friend's Place will offer an environment where EVERYONE
can laugh, play, learn and grow together, regardless of ability.
